- Stasi
- I am currently staying at home and taking care of my children (born 6/08 and 7/10). In my little free time, I teach and write liturgy. My work is currently available through the clayfire project (sparkhouse publishing, a division of Augsburg). I teach for Fuller Seminary online. I am also very interested in the spirituality of food and how faith impacts the choices people make around eating. I am writing articles and perhaps one day a book on this topic.

While I can definitely appreciate the commentary on the Baptist church, there's little that makes me more suspicious than when a person proclaims "I don't hate anyone."
Maybe I'm just a cynic.
Ha, that's funny. I actually went to a Bapist school for undergrad. Yikes, did I stick out like a sore thumb when it came to political discussions. Also, no one seemed to understand that there are different kinds of Mennonites . . . the kind that don't drive buggies and wear black. HA
Do you really want to lump all Baptists together that way? It sounds a bit judgementall, something no good progresively minded person would want to do. I know you didn't say it, but your quoting it can't help but make me wonder.

Ok, I must protest that comment and point out to b-w that there is no such thing as THE Baptist church. Baptists do not organize themselves like THE Episcopal Church or THE United Methodist Church. Also, many of my fellow Baptists do not fit most of the negative stereotypes about us. For instance, all of the Baptists I know in seminary are moderate to liberal politically and most of them even drink! Therefore, please do not lump all Baptists together in such a negative way. Only a certain group does things like boycott Disney. Remember, Martin Luther King, Jr. was a Baptist. I don't think he was a very hateful person.
It was just this person's experience. It was supposed to be funny.
It goes for all of us. Episcopalians are highly skilled at hating these days.
Wow! Chill, Ryan. I'm well aware of the Baptist church's multiplicity. I said I appreciated "the commentary." I certainly never took the statement as a sweeping condemnation of all Baptists, and MY POINT was that the speaker was probably no better (or at least, certainly not as free from guilt as he/she claimed).
And as Feminarian said, it was supposed to be funny!
